By 28 November 2022November 29th, 2022No Comments

Since launching in 2010 Instagram has grown to become the most popular social network in the entire world. So it’s no wonder that so many businesses want to be successful in marketing their products or services there. Whilst majority of users think the most important thing about Instagram is the photo or video being posted, we know it’s actually the captions. But what are the imporantance of captions? But more importantly how do you write Instagram captions that convert?

In the last few years writing Instagram captions has become somewhat of an art form. Which is no surprise considering the amount of algorithm, format and content changes Instagram have made. But one thing that has stayed consistent is their search function. If your caption has relevant keywords, reads well and is paired with a beautiful image you should end up on someone’s “explore” page. This will help get your content in front of people who aren’t following your account but perhaps share some of the same interests your business caters for. Great, but how do you get there? How do you write Instagram captions that convert?

Well first of all it completely depends on what your conversion or goal with Instagram is. Are you trying to gain more exposure? Sell more physical items? Attract visitors to your website? Or something else? Depending on what your goal is you should tailor your captions towards it. However, for the sake of simplicity, we’ve narrowed down our caption writing tips to just three. And the best part is, all of these tips can be applied to your business, no matter what your goal is.

Get emotional

Social media is all about sharing stories that make people feel something. After all, no one wants to follow an Instagram account that doesn’t tell a story. So no matter what you’re posting, get emotional and get personal. Really allow your story and your business’ personality to shine through. You could do this in many ways. For example, if you’re having a bad day, share the story behind that in your Instagram caption. It may seem negative but followers really appreciate an honest business owner who is fully transparent about the realities of working for themselves. You’ll be surprised how many people will engage with content like this because it’s more realistic and relatable.

Bring value

If you don’t have the emotional bandwidth to get personal with your Instagram captions then find another way to capture attention. One of the best ways to do this is to bring some sort of value to users. Now, like we already covered you can do this through storytelling. But another great way is to help inform and educate people. Perhaps you have a few tips of your own that you would like to share? Maybe there are some habits you’ve picked up over the years that you wish you had started sooner? Share them. You never know who you could be helping.

Provoke an action

You’ve probably noticed that some of the most successful Instagram captions are used to provoke actions. Be it encouraging people to answer a question, weigh in on a topical discussion or share their opinions. Whilst it seems shallow, people love talking and social media provides everyone with a way to do that with people they may have never met otherwise. This is also a great way to find out more about your potential customers and build better marketing personas
